Tickits by Paul Milenski â€Å"Then, before he put the box away, he wrote one more slip in his largest letters: â€Å"ERVYTHING WORNG!† (p. 2. l. 35-36)† This quote is a central symbol of the theme. Toby is handicapped. I believe he is suffering from arrested development. Tickets are frequently given by the police or other higher authorities to an individual, who breaks the law. Tickets are generally given, when people break the Road Traffic Act or something like that. This is the way a lot of people would describe getting a ticket. But this description does not fit the way Toby writes his tickets. Toby gives tickets to random people, who he believes are breaking the rules of a well-being society. Toby arrives, and he still tries to keep his faà §ade. â€Å"Toby took off his sneakers, carried them up the stairs† His mother start screaming, and the faà §ade cracks. â€Å"Toby pulled out a shoebox. One the cover it read, â€Å"Mothers tickits†Ã¢â‚¬  The shoebox is something you can close. When Toby’s life is miserable, he is able to give his mother tickits and thereby feel some kind of justice. Toby tries to forget about his mother, because she makes his life very hard. †With the box safely under his bed, Toby sat on the floor (..)† I believe that Toby keeps the shoebox under his bed until the next time his mother is yelling or being mean. Giving tickets to his mother and other people is a sort of indulgence – a way to find a meaning with life. â€Å"The rain began to wet Toby’s slips, blot his ink. He put everything away, looked up at the sky, rolled his eyes (p. 2. l. 11-12)† The rain is a symbol of Toby’s reality. When he it out giving fines he does not think about how hard his life is. When the rain starts to pour, he knows that he has to go home – home to his mother. Toby’s home is described very pessimistic. â€Å"Inside there were smells of cabbage, cigarette smoke, spilt alcohol. The entry was dark, lit intermittently with a pale of light from the television (p. 2. l. 18-19)† Toby feels ad a stranger in his own home.
